Why do backlink counts differ between tools?

Understand discovery and data freshness.

What to check

Backlink providers use different crawlers, discovery dates, deduplication and filtering rules. Compare referring domains and individual source URLs, not just headline counts. A missing backlink in one index does not prove the link is absent from the web.
